What is the difference between metal and glass gobo?
Metal gobos require "bridging" which connect the lines necessary to maintain the overall appearance and integrity of the image. The artwork is etched out of metal and the light shines through the cut area. Enclosed areas, such as the inside of the letter O, would fall out and look like an oval instead.
Glass gobos on the other hand don't require any "bridging" since they are printed directly on a piece of glass. This allows for more detail and can even include multiple colors printed directly on the gobo. Unlike steel gobos, glass gobos have different levels depending on the number of colors you require. The most cost effective is a simple Black & White Glass Gobo which is similar to a steel gobo but doesn't require "bridging" and offers the ability to have shading (Grayscale Glass Gobo).
Beyond grayscale glass gobos there are also 1-color, 2-color, 3-color and full color glass gobos. Please note that while white light is not considered a color, the black blocking plate is. This means if you wanted a logo with both blue and white light you would need a 2-color glass gobo (blue color + black blocking plate). While it's possibly to make a gobo without this black blocking plate it will result in a washed out logo. (More information about colored glass gobos please see below)
We recommend all gobos with image size smaller than 21mm to be created in Glass as "bridging" will be quite visible in projections.

Colored Glass gobo
We usually match the colors of your artwork with the colors of our Standard Color Palette. Shown here are the colors as Pantone print equivalents so they can be compared in color books. Gobos are manufactured in an entirely different process from print but we believe this is the easiest way to make color references.
We are able to make virtually any color, but we cannot guarantee the exact match of your colors in the resulting projection due to variations in the fixtures and projection surface. The color of a projected image will always vary from the print color as there is only limited control over the projection environment. The resulting projection color is influenced by factors such as ambient light situation, projection surface color and materials, and color temperature of the light bulb.
Please let us know if you need us to match a special color. This may require to change to a more expensive gobo color type, for example, a Two Color Gobo can become a Full Color type.
